Effective organisational change means changing yourself

Recently we enjoyed some delightful and stimulating 'walk and talk' sessions with Edwin Van Vlieberghe, until recently a Global Vice-President at Bombardier Transportation. Standing in the middle of Grimspound, a spectacular Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor, Edwin pointed out that the unique effectiveness of #workplaceinnovation as a means of enhancing business performance and working lives lies in its insistence on leaders changing themselves as well as their organisations.

He went on to share some inspiring experiences from his working life in the rail and automotive industries - and we look forward to hearing more from Edwin when we facilitate Scottish Enterprise's Workplace Innovation Masterclass in Edinburgh on 21st May. We're also excited about our plans for collaboration with Edwin in the future!

After a very successful Leadership for Workplace Innovation Immersive workshop in Exeter which enabled ten participants from very different companies, including Johnson & Johnson, Delt Services, MBDA, Futures Housing Group, M-EC and Lightfoot, to gain a fast track understanding of how effective leaders simultaneously create high performing organisations and great workplaces - with the option of gaining an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership & Management.

The workshop facilitators - Rosemary Exton, Natalie Wilkie and Peter Totterdill, designed the programme to interweave knowledge of how effective organisations work with a practical understanding of the personal skills and relationships that effective change leaders need to build #engagement, #workforcereadiness and an #innovationculture.

In short, they showed that emotionally intelligent leadership combined with employee empowerment and evidence-based workplace practices create an unstoppable competitive advantage.

Leaders who pursue these practices systematically gain a 20-60% advantage in performance across a range of business indicators including productivity, innovation capacity and employee health and well-being.

If you missed the Exeter workshop, more are planned for Bristol and Glasgow in June and July - contact us for more information. You can also find out more about our ILM-accredited Leadership Programmes.
