Turning Industry 5.0 from concept to action

PROSPECTS 5.0 demonstrates a practical self-assessment for human-centric, sustainable and resilient transformation.
The BRIDGES 5.0/EUWIN webinar on 25th September 2026 explored how organisations can turn the broad ambitions of Industry 5.0 into practical decisions. Presenters Anna Zmiievska and Simona Aceto from the Horizon Europe PROSPECTS 5.0 project, together with Giorgos Metaxiotis from Aethon introduced a digital self-assessment platform designed to help companies, business support organisations and public agencies identify strengths, gaps and priorities for action.
Built from a research-based framework and tested with 14 industrial use cases across different sectors and company sizes, the tool assesses three connected pillars: human-centricity, environmental sustainability and industrial resilience. Users enter evidence against a structured set of indicators, from employee training, wellbeing and participation to energy use, circular product design, supply-chain risk and cybersecurity. Where information is unavailable, selecting “not measured” is itself useful: it exposes blind spots and highlights where better monitoring or employee consultation may be needed.
On completion, organisations receive two complementary views: an alignment score showing how strongly Industry 5.0 is reflected in strategy, and an implementation score showing how far it is embedded in practice. Results are broken down by pillar and compared with sector peers. The project team is also developing an embedded assistant to explain indicators and methodology, link users to project evidence, and suggest actionable next steps. The assessment is intended as a starting point rather than a substitute for deeper diagnosis, consultancy or organisational dialogue.
A discussion tested the framework’s assumptions. Participants asked how employee voice, through direct participation, works councils and trade unions, is reflected when new technologies are introduced. The presenters pointed to indicators on representative decision-making and employee surveys, while acknowledging scope to make participation and trust more explicit. Questions also focused on weighting: core indicators account for 70% of the score, with 30% assigned to context-specific indicators. These exchanges reinforced a central lesson of the webinar: credible Industry 5.0 assessment must combine measurable evidence with meaningful worker involvement and follow-up action. PROSPECTS 5.0 is now finalising complementary training modules, case examples and guidance for companies, intermediaries and policymakers. Together, these resources aim to help organisations move beyond a one-off score towards a staged transition plan, prioritising improvements, setting timelines and repeating the assessment to track progress.
